Thought Provocation

by Dave on November 5, 2009

Hey

I subscribe to Nick Breens newsletter, can’t quite remember how I came across him. But he does offer a free course on how to make $500 with just the cost of a domain name, no upsell, side-sell, down-sell etc.,.

One of the things I appreciate about him, is that he personally responds to emails.

He recently sent out an email asking “What’s Your Number One Qustion About Making Money?”

Perhaps mine wasn’t the answer to the survey he was expecting, but this was it….

“Hey Nick,

Before I answer your question. I really would have liked to get some coaching with you, but I don’t have enough time right now to commit to something else. I’ve tried taking on lots of things before; planning them out on a activity tracker and a todo list. But it only ever works on paper. Life stuff happens, like your pet get’s ill or you have to deal with a bereavement, finding a niche takes longer than you planned, or things just don’t go according to the way you wanted them to.

Anyway to get to your point, and I think I may write a book about this!

In my experience, Internet Marketing (and the like) is similar to sports. It’s a space where you compete with other players in different leagues. The thing is, each and every ‘Newbie’ has to find out which game is more suited (if at all) to them. As example: In the offline world we have all different kinds of track and field events some sports do not require any fitness and training regime at all. Some demand extreme discipline and dieting.

Does sports have a bad rep? How many couch coaches’ are there that barate the player on the field, from the comfort of their lounge? So why then does Internet Marketing have such a bad rep? Anyway I’m sure you can see where I’m going with this… A Newbie to Internet Marketing has to find out which avenue is more suited to them, and they must do that by finding out and experiencing the different paths to find out which one they connect to or have an affinity with etc… They have not always been ‘burned by a guru’ or hoodwinked by a charlaton, (and yeah there are always exceptions to rules) They are finding out which method suits them or not.

The problem lies therein; In todays ‘NOW!’ society people do not have the same sense of delayed gratification that our Grandparents had. So they expect Now! results, if they don’t get the results…move onto something else!   That’s what we’re taught right?   So I guess my number one question about making money (online) is…

Why isn’t there a transparent and regulated ‘league table’ reflecting the % of success of their students, with the inducted number of students published.

Maybe I’m ahead of my time here?

Anyway It was, and is a thought provoking question!”

As always…comments are welcome..

Ciao
